Why EVO ICL costs more than LASIK.

LASIK reshapes tissue you already have. EVO ICL implants a manufactured medical device, and that difference drives essentially all of the price gap.

The lens is a custom device. Each EVO ICL is made from collamer, a biocompatible material, and sized to your eye’s internal measurements. Two lenses per patient, each individually specified — that is a hard cost before anyone enters the operating room.

The measurement burden is higher. Sizing an implant requires precise anterior-chamber depth and white-to-white measurements. Getting this wrong matters far more than with a laser procedure.

It is intraocular surgery. The procedure enters the eye rather than working on its surface, which means a sterile operating environment and a different standard of surgical care.

What you get for the difference: nothing is removed, no corneal tissue is reshaped, the correction reaches −20 diopters, and the lens is removable if your needs ever change. For a patient whose corneas rule out LASIK, EVO ICL is not a more expensive alternative — it is the only safe option.

EVO ICL vs LASIK: cost and fit.

Choose LASIK if — $4,000 both eyes

Your prescription is within LASIK’s safe range, your corneas have adequate thickness and a regular shape, and you do not have significant dry eye. LASIK is faster to recover from, costs less, and for a suitable candidate the outcomes are excellent. About LASIK →

Choose EVO ICL if — from $6,000 both eyes

Your prescription is too high for LASIK, your corneas are thin or irregular, or you have significant dry eye. EVO ICL corrects to −20 diopters, removes no corneal tissue, and is removable. About EVO ICL →

Not sure? That is what the consultation is for.

Corneal thickness and shape decide this, not preference. Your free evaluation includes the imaging that determines which procedure is safe for your eyes — and Dr. Lee will tell you plainly if LASIK is the better and cheaper answer. Compare all procedure prices →

Who EVO ICL is for.

EVO ICL suits patients between 21 and 45 with moderate to high myopia, with or without astigmatism, whose prescription has been stable and whose eyes are otherwise healthy. It is particularly valuable for people who were told years ago that they were not LASIK candidates — many of them are excellent ICL candidates.

CCRS has performed more than 2,500 ICL procedures. Dr. Mania Asadourian, the first optometrist in the United States to receive EVO ICL, had hers done here. Actor and comedian Jimmy O. Yang chose EVO ICL at CCRS as well.

If you are in your mid-40s or older, refractive lens exchange may serve you better than ICL, since it addresses reading vision too. We will raise that at the consultation if it applies.

EVO ICL cost questions

How much does EVO ICL cost?

EVO ICL at CCRS starts at $6,000 for both eyes, all-inclusive. Nationally EVO ICL runs $3,000 to $5,000 per eye, or roughly $6,000 to $10,000 for both. Your exact price depends on lens power and whether you need toric lenses for astigmatism.

How much does EVO ICL cost in Los Angeles?

In Los Angeles, EVO ICL is typically quoted between $3,000 and $5,000 per eye. CCRS starts at $6,000 for both eyes all-inclusive, covering the evaluation, both lenses, the procedure, medications and every follow-up visit.

Why is ICL more expensive than LASIK?

The implantable collamer lens is a manufactured medical device custom-sized to your eye, so there is a hard per-lens cost that laser surgery does not have. The measurement requirements are more demanding, and because it is intraocular surgery rather than corneal surface work, the surgical standard is different. At CCRS the gap is $4,000 for LASIK versus from $6,000 for EVO ICL.

Is EVO ICL covered by insurance?

Generally no, because it is elective. However EVO ICL is an eligible FSA and HSA expense, so you can use pre-tax dollars, and many vision plans provide member discounts. CCRS offers 0% financing through CareCredit at about $100 a month over 60 months.

Is EVO ICL worth the extra cost?

For a patient whose corneas cannot safely support LASIK, EVO ICL is not an upgrade — it is the procedure that makes correction possible at all. For a patient who is a good LASIK candidate, LASIK is usually the better value. The imaging at your consultation determines which applies to you.

Can EVO ICL be removed?

Yes. Unlike laser vision correction, which permanently reshapes the cornea, the EVO ICL lens can be removed or exchanged if your vision needs change or if you later develop a cataract.
