At CCRS, patients with weak corneas can undergo this FDA approved corneal strengthening procedure to prevent further weakening and loss of vision. The Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking was approved by the FDA in 2016 to treat weak corneal conditions such as keratoconus and kerectasia following laser vision correction surgeries. During this procedure, Riboflavin (Vitamin B) is applied to the cornea, and the eye is illuminated with UV-A light. This process creates cross-linking bridges between the corneal fibers and strengthens the corneal tissue. Unlike in the past, when corneal transplantation was the only definitive treatment for a weak cornea, corneal cross-linking can now be done as a cost-effective office procedure.
Dr. Paul C. Lee is not only an expert in vision correction through refractive procedures but is also a corneal specialist who can restore better health to a weakened eye. At CCRS, we are committed to bringing the most advanced treatment options to help our patients attain their maximal visual potential.
